With Orofacial therapy, a patient can regain the joy of eating and speaking, and also enjoy cosmetic improvements that help restore confidence and self-esteem.
Florida Facial Clinic specializes in Orofacial Myology. Orofacial therapy is a program used to correct an imbalance between tongue and facial muscles used at rest and for swallowing. The human body is a wondrously complex combination of tissue, bones and chemicals. To keep this mechanical marvel operating at its best, the body needs to maintain a certain balance.
However, as with any complicated system, when an important function of the body is thrown off, problems develop.
Orofacial therapy can help with: *Common cosmetic problems
Dull or sluggish appearance
Facial Grimace
Facial stress
Wrinkles
Knobby Chin
*Mouth Breathing
*Dental Problems Tongue thrust
Thumb Sucking
Open Bite
Malocclusion or improper alignment
Orofacial therapy is painless and the exercises are relatively simple. When ceratin muscles are strengthened and functioning properly, other muscles will follow suit until an overall balance of tongue and facial muscles is gained.
For success in this therapy, consistant exercise everyday is necessary until the patient has subsonsciously corrected their improper swallowing pattern. It also takes constant commitment by the patient, parental support and time.
Treatment usually consists of a regular program of excersises over a 4-to-12 month period, although length of treatment may vary.
Functional therapy makes it possible to deal with problems in a simpler and more rational way. Adequate prevention and early treatment offer to society consequent reduction in healthcare expenditures. International Functional Association
